Free and open to the public through Friday, June 19, 2015, GYRE: The Plastic Ocean is a unique science and art exhibition that explores the complex relationship between humans and the ocean in a contemporary culture of consumption. Twenty-five international artists examine the growing problem of plastic pollution through installations, photographs, paintings, sculpture, and video—reinforced by striking infographics and data. In addition, the David J. Sencer CDC Museum worked with NOAA’s Marine Debris Program to reinforce the message with documentation of marine trash found along the Southeast and Gulf of Mexico coasts. The goal for these exhibitions is to create awareness with the hope that key stakeholders will then spread the word to their constituents, who are concerned with the human footprint on our environment, the implications of plastic pollution on human health, the intersection of art and science, and sustainability issues.
