Eat.Teach.Talk.Run

On Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 the GSG hosted a special session of Eat.Teach.Talk.Run (ETTR)!  Started in 2011 by Brian Croxall and Howard Chiou, ETTR is an event where graduate student speakers share innovative teaching ideas and techniques in a series of 4 minute flash-talks to other graduate students. The event has seen great success, with ETTR chapters appearing at the University of Chicago and at Stanford University.

In the March 2014 ETTR, the GSG hosted three speakers:

John Trimper (Psychology) "Two birds with one outreach program: Teaching 3rd graders and graduate students through a hands on introduction to neuroscience," extolling the virtues of hands-on activities in the sciences at Emory and in the Atlanta-based Roots & Shoots program;

Orion Keifer (Neuroscience) "Finding the Skeletons in an Expert's Closet," discussing and updating tried-and-true methods of lecture based teaching; and

Ioulia Fenton (Anthropology) "Bringing a MOOC into the Classroom," introducing ways in which MOOCs can be incorporated into more intimate classroom settings through her experience of teaching the Age of Sustainable Development Coursera class during Spring of 2014.

Following these talks the other 28 attendees discussed and voted on the best idea over banh mi sandwiches and frozen yogurt, ultimately bestowing the coveted St. Patrick Day's Hat on Orion Keifer.

ETTR is looking for new leadership! Organizing the event takes only a few hours of time a month and consistent funding is potentially available. If you are interested in leading ETTR forward, please contact:
