GSG/LGS Sustainability Ambassadors

Graduate Sustainability Group (GSG) has teamed up with Laney Graduate School (LGS) to create the GSG/LGS Sustainability Ambassadors program that seeks to have graduate student ambassadors in each of Laney's academic programs. The initiative will help LGS achieve its Climate Action Plan (CAP).

The long-term goal of the Ambassadors program is to develop a representative team that includes one student from each Laney graduate program. Each student will act as a sustainability representative for their department, will help disseminate information about sustainability events to other students, and will share issues with the CAP committee. As the group develops over time, other activities could include:

  • Create a Sustainability Committee for each department or program that will initiate and complete sustainability projects (see our Ambassador Project Ideas based on initiatives implemented in the Anthropology program during 2013-14 academic year)

  • Provide resources and signage to encourage sustainable building practices

  • Work with other student groups on events, such as Bike tour of local community gardens

  • Share and initiate the Emory Sustainable Events Check List in LGS programs

  • Attend quarterly meetings with other Ambassadors and Laney and GSG representatives in order to share ideas, lessons learned, and feedback on progress

The expected time commitment is a maximum of 1-2 hours per week.

To apply, send a one page cover letter with your name, program and year of study, reasons for wanting to join the Ambassador program, and why you are the right person for the job, to sarah.turkaly@emory.edu or rachel.e.turn@emory.edu

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
